In my research program, I study the evolution of intergroup relationships in humans -- why did intergroup relationships evolve in the human lineage? When do intergroup relationships form: what are the relevant social and ecological factors? How can we employ this understanding to inform policy? I use a number of methods to tackle these questions, the most central of which is quantitative and qualitative fieldwork, conducted with the assistance of three populations of horticulturalists in the Bolivian Amazon. My other interests include global patterns of market integration/social change and behavioral and health outcomes, credulity towards new information, and cross-cultural patterns in morality.
