Leipzig is a busy East German city full of cultural history. For example, Bach, Goethe, Mendelssohn and Schumann were all residents of Leipzig during their lives. In more recent history, Leipzigers played an important role in ending communist occupation of East Germany, with famous demonstrations at the Nikolai Church in the city center.
