Isotope analysis: diet, migration and climate
Migration
We undertake isotope analysis of a number of elements in bone and teeth to reconstruct the movements of hominins and fauna. A main research focus is on the measurement of the isotopes of strontium in tooth enamel using our PIMMS facility. We are developing the use of laser ablation as a method to sub-sample tooth enamel for strontium isotope measurements as a way to measure small-scale movements. Additionally, we are continuing to develop the use of sulphur isotopes in bone and tooth collagen as an indicator of migrations.
