Genetic diversity and demographic history of human populations

The demographic history of humans is reflected in patterns of genetic variation within and among populations. I’m interested in investigating the genetic variation in human populations in order to reconstruct their history (e.g. changes in population size and migration events).

My current project especially focuses on Y-chromosomal marker and male specific diversity pattern. While doing this we use recently established methods to enrich selected regions of the Y-chromosome by using a micro array capture approach, followed by high-throughput sequencing of the enriched DNA on a Genome Analyzer II (Illumina). This data will give us more information about male specific history and, when comparing with mitochondrial data, about potential gender specific differences in population history.
