Population history of Taiwan aborigines
Taiwan aborigines are indigenous peoples who migrated into Taiwan 6000 years ago and subsequently made a unique contribution to the world, most widely known as the Austronesian expansion. My interest/background has been the medical research of their disease susceptibilities. In this group, my project is the extraction of Taiwan aboriginal population history from mitochondrial DNA, Y-chromosome, and genomic sequence data. Through combining genetics and Bayesian computation techniques, we would like to address issues such as how the patterns of diversity could have arisen in Taiwan, the demographic process of how people moved into and out of Taiwan, as well as comparison with the data from anthropology, archeology and linguistics.
