Jennifer Wilson studied linguistics at the College of William & Mary (2004-2008) where she graduated summa cum laude before beginning her doctoral studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo (2008-present). Since 2010, she has been engaged in the documentation of Yeri [yev], an endangered Torricelli language spoken in Papua New Guinea. In 2012 she received a three-year doctoral fellowship from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology to write a grammar of the language.
