Zaira Khalilova was trained in General Linguistics at Dagestan State University, Russia. Her main research interests are morphology, syntax, language description and documentation. In 2009 she finished her PhD on the descriptive grammar of Khwarshi, a Nakh-Dagestanian language. Since 2010 she has started her postdoctoral project on the grammar of Bezhta.
