Since January 2013 Robert Forkel has been working at the MPI-EVA as programmer and researcher in the Cross-Linguistic Linked Data project.

Before joining MPI EVA, Robert Forkel worked for the Max Planck Digital Library on the publication infrastructure for the Living Reviews family of journals. He was also the main Developer for the online publication of "The World Atlas of Language Structures" and the "World Loanword Database".

 

CLLD

The Cross-Linguistic Linked Data project will develop interoperable data publication structures using Linked Data principles as integration mechanism for distributed resources.

This philosophy allows for

  • small-scale efforts to publish individual databases like WALS or WOLD, thereby preserving the brands established by these projects,
  • while at the same time facilitating uniform access to the data across publications.

Within the project this approach will be applied to publish lexical and grammatical databases already compiled at the MPI EVA, thereby extracting a software framework which can then be used to develop database journals, i.e. edited collections of databases submitted by linguists around the world.
