Descriptive linguistic content is still usually presented in book form. This project explores ways how descriptive grammars can be published on the Internet. In a trivial sense, this can be made by publishing a pdf on the author's homepage. Electronic publishing, however, allows for more than just calques of printed books. Hyperlinks, versioning, inclusion of multimedia content and interactions with readers are some topics which come to mind.
The project looks at best practices applied in published grammars and formulate a general XML-schema from them. Legacy grammars can then be converted to this schema. Looking forward, the project also aims at providing a software platform for prospective grammar writers, where an easy way to write standards-compliant grammars will be provided. The ultimate goal is a convergence between legacy and future grammars, which can be queried at the same time.
