We have a state-of-the-art laboratory for soft and hard tissue histology and material property testing. In addition, we can make use of the computed tomography scanners and other facilities in the Department of Human Evolution.

Semi-enclosed Benchtop Tissue Processor– Leica TP1020

Used to fixate, dehydrate, and infiltrate histological tissue samples with fixatives, alcohol, solvents, and paraffin wax.

Research Cryostat Leica CM3050 S

Used to cut frozen histological slides with a thickness of approximately 5-10 micrometers.

Buehler saw, grinder-polisher and Logitech saw

There are two Buehler Isomet precision saws, a Buehler Ecomet Grinder-Polisher and a large-diameter Logitech automated annular saw (APD1) that can section and polish hard tissue samples.
