Research on cognition in chimpanzees
2006 - present Co-founded the Conservation Group of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. Projects have included a conservation education program with the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation (Club P.A.N.), primate-focused sustainable logging and primate reintroduction literature reviews.

 

Conservation awards & funding

The following grants were rewarded to the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation for the environmental education program (Club P.A.N.) in schools in Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea: Rufford Small Grants, Columbus Zoo, WWF, Brevard Zoo, DierenPark Amersfoort Wildlife Fund, Minnesota Zoo, Leipzig Zoo, Zoo am Meer Bremerhaven, Oregon Zoo, USFW GACF, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, GAC, Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund, Yves Rocher Foundation and Sweden Chimpanzee Trust.

Club P.A.N.'s Julia Riedel recently won third prize (3000 euros) for Club P.A.N. through the Yves Rocher Fondation Umweltpreis 2011 Trophée de femmes. Congratulations!

The Trophée de femmes awards women working with environmental projects with the common goal of creating a future worth living. The Environmental Award honors women who contribute to nature and biodiversity, and often do so in secret. About 200 winners in over 50 countries around the world have been honored for their exemplary commitment to environmental protection and nature conservation.
