Current research

My research focuses on conservation approaches that address the socio-economic processes underlying the accelerated destruction of ecosystems. I am especially interested in the factors that indirectly drive the threats to great apes and their habitats, and how they influence the distribution of these animals. The aim of my research is to prioritize conservation approaches that maintain the diversifying processes of great ape populations in a landscape mosaic of competing land uses.

I am also interested in how the costs and benefits of the indirect drivers of threats to great apes are distributed at different spatial scales, i.e., global versus local drivers. By understanding the spatial distribution of costs and benefits, conservation efforts can be directed towards key stakeholders and decision-makers.
