Interests

I am interested in combining archaeological, anthropological and archaeogenetic approaches to understand the population dynamics and changes of circum-Rhine region populations at the time transition from late Antiquity to early Middle Ages. The Rheinland landscapes are nowadays shaped by intense bown coal mining. This special situation provides chellanges but also some opportunities and is cause to the intense archaeological investigations done in this area, which provide a great starting point for population genetic studies.

My research for my master thesis built the base for my current studies, which also includes physical anthropology, work in aDNA (ancient DNA) labratories as well as population genetic analyses. Next to this, I have extensive experience in archaeological field work and am currently one of the PhD representatives of the Archaeogenetics department at the institute.
