Mangabey Group
The Taï National Park is home to another terrestrial primate species, the Sooty mangabey (Cercocebus atys). Sooty mangabeys also life in large multi-male mulit-female groups. In comparison to chimpanzees, however, females are the philopatric sex while males migrate to other groups. Mangabeys, therefore, follow the typical old world primate structure being organised in matrilines.
Since November 2012, we observe a group of managbeys sharing part of the homerange of the North group, ranging mainly around the Barrage. The mangabey group of TCP consists of about 60 individuals (including 18 adult and 12 subadult females, 8 adult and 19 subadult males, and 4 babies born during the season 2013).
