My doctoral research, under the supervision of Bret A. Beheim, Timothy Waring and Richard McElreath, focuses on processes of social information transmission and learning that underlie material culture repertoire and evolution. I am interested in how patterns in material culture may reflect individual differences and underlying social structures as well as how various constraints might operate on material culture productions. Furthermore, given the importance of the skill-intensive, socially learned foraging niche in human evolution, I am interested in understanding the human pattern of skill ontogeny and senescence. I mostly use computational and (Bayesian) statistical modeling approaches to disentangle transmission processes and understand skill ontogeny in material culture.
