I am an evolutionary social scientist with a background in Economics and Sociology and a broad interest in applying insights from evolutionary sciences to our most pressing environmental challenges.   Currently I am working on several issues concerning environmental valuation, norm inculcation and institutional dynamics.  I operate a field site in Pemba Tanzania where we are working on understanding how payments for ecosystems can create incentive structures that facilitate the spread of conservation institutions, breed new environmental norms, and help locals successfully manage their own natural resources from the ground up.  This involves a multi-methods approach that integrates traditional economic survey research with contingent valuation, a host of behavioral games and cross disciplinary connections with GIS labs and ecologists.   Previous research has looked at acute and long-term responses to environmental shocks (eg. droughts), the developmental ontogeny of social preferences, and natural resource degradation.
