In addition to the specialised laboratories, we also have facilities for more general sample preparation purposes. This includes rooms and equipment for rock cutting and polishing. We have laminar flow work stations, equipped with HEPA filters, for preparing sub samples, e.g. from stalagmites for U-series dating. Powder samples can be drilled in this work station in a dust free environment using a micro drill with tungsten carbide drill bits. Additional equipment includes, for example, centrifuges, heating blocks, freeze dryer, ultrasonic baths, sandblaster or drying cabinets. We also have fume hoods for chemical treatment / digestion of samples, one of our fume hoods is suitable for HF applications.
