Research Interests

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Human Evolution, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. My research focuses on the postcranial morphology of extant apes and fossil hominins to reconstruct the locomotor and tool-use behaviour of early hominins. I am primarily interested in the functional morphology of the internal structure of skeleton, trabecular and cortical bone, which adapts to behaviour during life.

For my doctoral research, I applied whole-joint methods to investigate systemic and ontogenetic variation in internal bone structure in humans and chimpanzees. Through ascertaining the extent of intra-individual and intra-specific variability of internal bone structure, this research assessed the relevance of internal bone structural analysis for reconstructing behaviour in fossil hominins.
