The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology is delighted to announce that Prof. Dr. Johannes Krause has been elected as a new member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. This prestigious appointment recognises outstanding scientific achievements at an international level.
Prof. Krause is Director at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, where he heads the Department of Archaeogenetics. His pioneering research into ancient DNA in historical and prehistoric contexts has significantly expanded our knowledge of human history, migration and ancient pathogens.
“Being elected to the Leopoldina is a great honour and recognition of the collaborative and interdisciplinary research conducted at our institute. I look forward to facilitating scientific exchange within the Academy and jointly addressing current societal challenges,” Prof. Krause said regarding his election to the Academy.
With a history spanning over 370 years, the Leopoldina is one of the world's oldest science academies. It brings together outstanding scientists from diverse disciplines and promotes dialogue between research, society, and policy.
