abstract = {{This paper provides a sketch of the phonetics and phonology of Tomoip, an Austronesian {\textless}br{\textgreater}language of New Britain, Papua New Guinea. Tomoip does not appear to be closely related to {\textless}br{\textgreater}the other Austronesian languages of New Britain. Furthermore, it has been in contact with {\textless}br{\textgreater}multiple non-Austronesian languages of the island. These two facts suggest that the language {\textless}br{\textgreater}may have had a particularly interesting history. As the first publication dedicated to Tomoip, {\textless}br{\textgreater}this paper is intended to serve as a starting point for further description, analysis, and {\textless}br{\textgreater}classification of the language.}},
