We discuss starting {\textless}br{\textgreater}a new field site, collaborating at established sites, and practical {\textless}br{\textgreater}strategies for building and maintaining ties to the field site {\textless}br{\textgreater}longitudinally. Throughout, we emphasize that developing trusting {\textless}br{\textgreater}relationships with the community is critical to ethical research {\textless}br{\textgreater}practice and essential for good science. Starting from this principle, {\textless}br{\textgreater}we review the practical strategies for relationship-building and {\textless}br{\textgreater}establishing ethical research practices, especially in regard to {\textless}br{\textgreater}work with children and in settings with little to no infrastructure {\textless}br{\textgreater}for research oversight.
