%X This paper provides a sketch of the phonetics and phonology of Tomoip, an Austronesian <br>language of New Britain, Papua New Guinea. Tomoip does not appear to be closely related to <br>the other Austronesian languages of New Britain. Furthermore, it has been in contact with <br>multiple non-Austronesian languages of the island. These two facts suggest that the language <br>may have had a particularly interesting history. As the first publication dedicated to Tomoip, <br>this paper is intended to serve as a starting point for further description, analysis, and <br>classification of the language.
