%0 Journal Article %A Barlow, Russell %+ Linguistic and Cultural Evolution, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History, Max Planck Society %T Some areal loanwords in New Britain, Papua New Guinea : %G eng %U https://hdl.handle.net/21.11116/0000-0011-4936-F %7 2025 %D 2025 %X The island of New Britain in Papua New Guinea is home to great linguistic diversity, including not only Austronesian languages from both the Meso-Melanesian and North New Guinea subgroups of Oceanic but also non-Austronesian (or “Papuan”) languages belonging to as many as six differentlineages, including four language isolates. This paper reports on several widespread loanwords that are found in both Austronesian and non-Austronesian languages of New Britain.
