Flights to Leipzig

Leipzig/Halle Airport(LEJ) itself is relatively small, with direct flights only to a few destinations in Europe (see below).
So it is often better (cheaper, faster, and with a bigger choice of airlines and flight times) to fly to Berlin or Frankfurt airports, and then take the train (very comfortable) to Leipzig.

  • Berlin Tegel (TXL) - c. 20 minutes bus/taxi to Berlin Hbf (Hauptbahnhof = main station), then 1h05 by train to Leipzig, direct.
  • Berlin Schönefeld (SXF) - c. 2h00 by train, with one change.
  • Frankfurt (FRA) - c. 4h00 by train, some services direct.

To fly to Leipzig/Halle airport itself you will have to fly from, or connect through, one of these airports:

  • Frankfurt and Munich - with Lufthansa
  • Paris and Amsterdam - with the new Darwin Airlines(Swiss).

There are also two budget airlines to Leipzig, but without through ticketing to other airlines, flying from:

  • Cologne/Bonn, Stuttgart, and Düsseldorf - with GermanWings
  • London Stansted - with RyanAir.

For information on how to get from the airport or train station to your hotel and to the Max Planck Institute, see below under accommodation.

Accommodation

For all invited participants, MPI-EVA has already booked your room at one of the Institute's two usual hotels.

For guests arriving from outside Europe:

  • Victor's Residenz-Hotel Leipzig

Victor's is just outside Leipzig main railway station, and a few minutes' walk from the city centre.

For guests arriving from within Europe:

  • Antikhotel am Völkerschlachtdenkmal

The hotel's name refers to the enormous Monument to the Battle of the Nations, Napoleon's great defeat in 1813, which is very close to the hotel and well worth a look.
