The project contributes both directly and indirectly
to the conservation of the Salonga National Park in general
and the
SW-part including the populated fringe areas in particular. This is done by: |

- Continuous presence of researchers
- Acquisition of knowledge on flora & fauna essential
for the implementation of conservation plans
- Conservation of traditional knowledge
- Transfer of traditional knowledge to the younger
generation
- Sensitisation concerning harvesting techniques
- Investigation of potential sustainable use
- Assimilation of former hunters into the project
- Improvement of the local socio-economy such as
- Employment of local villagers
- Buying of local products for food supply
- Acquisition of additional projects such as
- Set-up for a local tailor-NGO in the villages
outside the SW park-fringe (financial support: German
embassy Kinshasa)
- Evaluation biodiversity & commercial potential
of aquarium fishes (financial support: GTZ)
- Evaluation of Land-Cover & Use of the SNP (financial
support: GTZ)
- Reconstruction of a local primary school at Lompole
(financial support: German embassy Kinshasa)
