Open source tools

EDM

An app for total station use on archaeological sites. EDM is the latest version of software McPherron (and Dibble) developed over the last thirty years to run total stations on archaeological sites. Like previous versions, this software works with a user created configuration file that lets users tailor the data collection to their specific needs. This version is now open-source and cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebooks running Linux). For more information and downloads, see McPherron's GitHub page: https://github.com/surf3s/EDM

E5

An app for data collection.  E5 is the latest version of McPherron's data entry software (previously Entrer Trois and E4).  It helps make data entry fast and efficient by offering various types of error checking, menu variables and conditional variables.  It works with a user created configuration file.  This version is open-source and cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebooks running Linux).  For more information and downloads, see McPherron's GitHub page at

Barcodes labels

A web page for printing barcode labels.  It is intended for but not limited to archaeological and museum collection projects.  This web site allows some basic customization of the labels and produces PDF files that can then be printed to labels.  QR as well as traditional barcodes are supported.  https://www.oldstoneage.com/labels/field_labels/

Combe-Capelle Bas database

The full database from the excavations by Dibble and Lenoir at the Middle Paleolithic site of Combe-Capelle Bas can be downloaded from here.  This web site also offers the possibility to plot the points directly: https://www.oldstoneage.com/plotit/?section=cc
