Ancient relatives

New computational tool detects up to second to third degree cousins using ancient genomes

Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, and Harvard University in the USA have developed a new tool which enables them to identify prehistoric and historic individuals' relatives up to the sixth degree. Previous methods worked only up to the third degree. This innovation will help scientists identify yet unknown ties between ancient individuals and cultures.
