The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (MPI-EVA) in Leipzig is proud to be part of the outstanding research clusters that recently succeeded in the Excellence Strategy competition in Germany.
MPI-EVA is part of two Clusters of Excellence
The Leipzig Center of Metabolism (Leipzig Research Center for Civilization Diseases, CRC), which is hosted by Leipzig University, was selected as one of the new Clusters of Excellence. This cluster brings together interdisciplinary expertise to foster cutting-edge research on metabolism and its role in health and disease.
Furthermore, the University of Tübingen achieved an exceptional milestone by having six Clusters of Excellence awarded to them, including the “Cluster of Excellence: Human Origins”. MPI-EVA is a key partner in this cluster, which investigates fundamental questions of human evolution and cultural development by combining palaeogenomics, archaeology, and evolutionary biology.
Professor Johannes Krause, Managing Director at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and Cluster Partner, commented on these successes: "Being part of these forward-thinking clusters highlights the strength of collaborative research in Germany. The Excellence Strategy funding provides us with unique opportunities to unravel the complex history of human evolution and further our understanding of what makes us human. We look forward to collaborating with our partners to expand our knowledge at the intersection of genetics, archaeology, and evolutionary anthropology."
These achievements further establish Leipzig and Tübingen as leading centres for innovative research, providing a robust foundation for scientific discoveries that benefit society as a whole.
