20 years of research at Pongoland

On April 1, 2021, the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and the Zoo Leipzig celebrate 20 years of research at the Wolfgang Köhler Primate Research Center (aka Pongoland).

Scientists in the Department of Comparative Cultural Psychology at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, study how great apes perceive and understand their environment. In twenty years, the researchers, first under the leadership of Director Michael Tomasello and since 2019 under the leadership of Director Daniel Haun, have made many new and important insights into the cognitive abilities of our closest relatives.
