Genomes (Kay Prüfer)

The group was a member of the Genetics Department from 2013-2018.
Kay Prüfer is moving to the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History.

The focus of the Genomes group is on learning more about the recent evolutionary history of humans through evolutionary analysis of genome data. For this purpose we use both available software and develop new computational methods. Our analyses are based on comparison of the human genome to the genomes of our closest living relatives, chimpanzee and bonobo, and our closest extinct relatives, Neandertals and Denisovans. Currently the group's efforts are focused on the analysis of a high-coverage Neandertal genome. In addition, the group is dedicated to supporting other projects requiring genome-wide analyses.
