Amy Anderson

I am an anthropologist with a background in Archaeology and Integrative Anthropological Sciences. Much of my research is motivated by longstanding questions in bioarchaeology about how to reconstruct the health of past populations. My research tackles the chain of relationships that mediate skeletal evidence of disease in the archaeological record and that obscure the relationship between health and the skeleton in contemporary populations. To this end, I use generative modeling and existing data from epidemiology, clinical medicine, and demography to address the relationship between health and skeletal evidence of disease.

During my time with the Birthrites group I am extending my modeling skills by applying them to a complex topic in cultural evolution—exploring the factors that drive the emergence, maintenance, and loss of multilingualism. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher on the ERC-funded project "Multilingual worlds – neglected histories. Uncovering their emergence, continuity and loss in past and present societies" (MULTILING-HIST), led by Principal Investigator Prof Justyna Olko at the University of Warsaw.
