I am an environmental anthropologist broadly interested in humans’ interactions with their environment, and the effect of cultural change on such interactions. In particular, my research explores the content, connections, distributions, and dynamics of environmental conceptions, and how they influence people’s environmental behavior. I am currently investigating these issues in the cultural context of indigenous Matsigenka communities in the Manu region of Amazonian Peru, where I examine local notions of social relations, non-human beings, the environment, food, health, and wellbeing, as well as the politics of resource management and conservation. In my research, I combine my training in anthropology with my background in biology and ethnobotany, employing qualitative and quantitative methods through the use of ethnography, formal field experiments, and statistical analysis.
