Relative clauses and Noun-modifying clauses

This collaborative project based at Stanford University and with Comrie as co-PI was a cross-linguistic investigation of clausal noun-modifying constructions (NMCs) in languages of Eurasia. It aimed to extend and redirect the methodological and theoretical scope of NMC research, by collecting and carefully examining naturalistic data as well as elicited materials from understudied languages, and by developing a new theoretical framework to systematically account for a wider variety of NMCs in a broad range of languages. The findings from this proposed project would not only advance our knowledge of these important yet less frequently studied languages, but would also contribute to advancing research in grammatical theories and areal typology.
